When getting ready to assemble a Forge World model, it's a good idea to go through every piece and check to make sure you have every part. Most of the bigger Forge World kits come with a contents list of what should be included. If for some reason you're missing a piece, either contact Forge World through their web site www.forgeworld.co.uk so that they can send you a replacement piece or go back to the store where you bought it and see if they will contact Forge World for you. |

You will next want to collect together the tools you might need before you begin your project. This will help you know what you've got and what you might need to acquire. Some things you might want: clippers, a craft knife, a hobby saw, various grits of sand paper, pin vise, two-part epoxy putty, rubber gloves, dishwashing liquid or cleaner degreaser, an old toothbrush, and a face mask. VERY IMPORTANT: ALWAYS WEAR A FACE MASK WHEN FILING OR SANDING RESIN COMPONENTS. BREATHING IN FINE RESIN DUST CAN BE BAD FOR YOUR LUNGS. |

Before you do any modeling, it is vitally important that you wash every single piece in the kit you've purchased. Forge World kits are created using rubber moulds. In order to keep the resin from sticking to the mould, a release agent is applied to the inside before they pour in the liquid resin. Sometimes, this release agent is left on the resin model when it is pulled from the mould and paint and glue will not stick properly to the model. There are several ways to wash your model; the first method would be to use any type of household dishwashing liquid. Alternately, you can try using a degreaser often found in automotive or DIY stores. If you go this route, make sure to pick up some rubber gloves to protect your hands. Degreasers will not only take the mould release off, they will also suck out any essential oils in your hand and make them very dry. The third method is a bit more nontraditional. Rumor has it that soaking your model pieces in carbonated soda overnight will also remove the mould release agent. Whichever method you choose, it's a good idea to use an old toothbrush to help scrub the model when you wash it to get to any hard-to-reach spots. |
