THE GOD COMPLEX

super heavy tank is large and impressive, it will have good armour values, and two or more structure points. All of this means that unlike normal vehicles the chances of a single lascannon obliterating a super heavy vehicle are very slim. However, it is not invincible! Even if it is not destroyed, accumulating a handful of damage results can seriously undermine the impact your super heavy can have on the battle – each gun destroyed or gun crew shaken impairs your vehicle's ability to deal damage to the enemy. An Apocalypse army can include a whole plethora of tanks and heavy weapons squads just itching to reenact David versus Goliath, so be sure to have a good look at the enemy force and identify what units pose the biggest threat – then take them out first!
The most obvious threat is enemy super heavy vehicles. Some of these monstrous metallic beasts are built for the sole purpose of destroying the largest targets possible. If your super heavy is such a vehicle, then try your best to make sure you get in the first shot! If not, then you have two options. The first is to direct as much of the rest of your army's antitank firepower as possible towards the offending super heavy, and if if you can't destroy it try to knock out is primary weapon. If this isn't possible, then seriously think about where to hide. At a pinch you might even need to sacrifice one or two other vehicles in your army; simply park them between your super heavy tank and the enemy and use them as cover. Don't fret too much about this, you are playing Apocalypse after all, and vehicles aren't in short supply!
The second biggest threat is enemy tanks – usually when there are lots of them. Most super heavy vehicles can withstand the odd battle cannon shell or lascannon blast, but four or five are going to start to make an impression. Unlike enemy super heavy tanks, its often hard to present your front armour against so many adversaries, so use terrain and other units to impede the enemy's ability to target weaker side armour – and always be prepared to obliterate any opposing unit that manages to get behind your super heavy.
As with tanks, infantry squads such as Space Marine Devastators, Chaos Space Marine Havocs and Tau Broadside Battlesuits can bristle with anti-tanks guns. Treat these as you would enemy tanks. A more worrying prospect is enemy assault troops, particularly those armed with melta-bombs and similar specialist antitank weapons. These can often close quickly on your super heavy so sometimes the best defence is attack – wipe out these units before they can advance, if possible. As well as this, it's always useful to have at least one friendly infantry squad close at hand that can intercept incoming assault troops, even if only to hold them up for a turn or two.
