CREATING MUTATED PLANETS OF CHAOS - BY RICK SMITH
Within the Eye of Terror, there exist worlds that do not adhere to laws of nature that govern the rest of the galaxy. The corrupting energy of Chaos saturates these planets while Daemons and mortals battle for the pleasure of their immortal masters.
Rick: There are plenty of other pieces of terrain that you can make for your battles within the Eye of Terror (they're not called the Realms of Chaos for nothing), but I've come up with four examples – one for each of the Chaos Powers. They may look difficult to make, but they aren't too bad. Just give yourself plenty of room to spread out your material, be patient, and the rest should just come together.

SLAANESH |

This piece was a simple idea that can be used in games of both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer. It's not hard to imagine things like this jutting from a war-torn wasteland strewn with bits of broken bone, skulls, and the blood of fallen warriors. If you're feeling adventurous, try adding pools of blood, some plastic skulls, or maybe some slashing claws from the Chaos Spawn model. |
How can you go wrong with grasping tentacles and fang-filled maws for a piece of Slaanesh terrain? Well, I couldn't, so I marched right to the local toy shop with this idea in mind, trying to find any kind of action figure with tentacles and teeth. I tried to capture the look of Slaanesh with bright colours, but I realised afterwards that they may be a bit garish. Consider trying more muted tones of the same hues when you give it a try. |

TZEENTCH |

This terrain project was the first of the group to pop into my head, simply because it was easy to visualise. Big, bursting, pus-filled bubbles were the way to go. The thing to remember is this: the filthier, slimier, and more revolting, the better. Maybe you could make your own house rules for these scenery pieces. What Guardsman would want to walk through this mess?!!! |
This oddity was probably the most interesting to conceptualise and build. Tzeentch is the master of magic and change, and this piece of scenery tries to capture that essence. What could be stranger than a magically charged boulder floating across the landscape, changing everything that passes beneath it? I couldn't think of anything weirder, either, so I made this one. |
