EXTRAS FROM THE CITIES OF DEATH
The Studio's Hobby Team made a whole host of projects that couldn't fit in the new book. Check out their extra stratagems, buildings and conversions here.
n Games Workshop's Design Studio, the Hobby Team is responsible for creating all of the amazing terrain and conversions that are shown in rulebooks, expansions, and White Dwarf articles. When they were working on the Cities of Death expansion to Warhammer 40,000, they got so excited that they created way too much awesome content to fit into the book. Luckily, we were able to get exclusive shots of these previously unseen buildings, signposts, converted models, and extra stratagems. Models in this article are not shown to scale – click each image below to see a larger, up-close version.
(Left) A power generator built from the 40K Battlefield Accessories sprue, Techmarine servo-arms, and an inner strut from a Land Raider. (Centre) This base full of guns is an ammo dump. It was constructed using battlefield accessories, lasguns from the Cadian sprue, bits from the Imperial Guard Tank Upgrade sprue, and the Cadian Heavy Weapons sprue. (Right) The square base with fuel cans can serve as either a fuel dump or generic scenery. Making a marker with a couple of different pieces on it (guns and ammo for example) allows you to make the best use of your spare parts. Just make sure you let your opponent know what it represents before the game!
(Left) Another view of this Command Centre stratagem can be found on p. 66 of the Cities of Death expansion. (Centre) This small model can easily represent a Power Generator stratagem. (Right) This Eldar power generator can be seen in action on p. 67 of the Cities of Death expansion.
(Left) The Space Marine on a column represents sacred ground. It was built using a Space Marine plastic kit and assorted Sister of Battle bits, while the pillar is from a cake decoration shop. (Centre) This pointy Chaos stratagem also represents sacred ground... of a different sort. It was built using the Defiler sprue, the Chaos Spiky sprue, and the lascannons from a Land Raider. (Right) This command center was built using the internal detail bits from a Land Raider and assorted Imperial bits.
This fantastic model was created to represent a Tau Medicae Facilities stratagem. A fully painted version of this model can be seen on p. 73 of the Cities of Death expansion.
Here are two shots of the unpainted model that the Hobby Team created to represent a Tau Ammo Dump stratagem. The painted version can be found on p. 72 of the Cities of Death expansion.
