ADVICE ON BUILDING A CITY OF DEATH
So, you want to build your own City of Death table, but where to start? Here, we walk you through the design steps from table size to sector choice.

Tyranids swarm across an Imperial City packed with scratch-built buildings
et's face it: though making terrain from scratch can be fun, it is very time consuming. Most of us would rather pour those hours into painting and converting armies of Games Workshop miniatures and leave the terrain making to the Hobby Centres, Gaming Rooms, Independent Stockists, and the die-hard members of our gaming groups.

A ruined Sanctum Imperialis building |
Fortunately, help has arrived in the form of the new ruined building sets. Now, we can design and construct the Warhammer 40,000 table of our dreams in a lot less time than before. Plus, we no longer have to be an expert carpenter or sculptor to make great-looking terrain. If you are old enough to use a bottle of superglue, you can assemble these amazing buildings to adorn your tabletop battlefields of the far future.
Having said that, there are a few things that you should probably consider before you and your gaming group get caught up in a civil-engineering frenzy and start slapping building panels together. We sat down and brainstormed a few ideas that will hopefully help you with your city designing. We've also gathered a list of decisions that you and your friends should probably decide on before you get started making the most amazing terrain project of your gaming lives.
Some of this advice is a bit obvious, while other decisions may not have occurred to your group. Others are included for completeness, and some are there just to give you fun ideas about different things to add to your tables. As always, if you think there is something we've omitted or have great ideas of your own, please (please!) take the time to visit the Games Workshop forums to help your fellow gamers make the most of their city-building experience.
