ADVICE ON BUILDING A CITY OF DEATH

TYPE OF SECTOR

We selected an industrial sector as a natural choice
We selected an industrial sector as a natural choice.

Y ou know the size of your city, how many buildings you want to make, and what materials you're going to use. Now, on to the buildings themselves. What type of sector do you want your board to represent? Do you even want to represent a sector at all, or do you just want to make a lot of neat buildings using all of the different parts of the ruined building kits? In case you do want to build a city sector and not just lots of excellent structures, here are some district options to mull over: administrative, warehouse, industrial, residential, palatial, mercantile, armoury, and so forth. If you wanted, you could make your entire table a depiction of the inside of one large factory, or a spaceport. There is no limit to the possible settings. However, you do need to decide what you want to do before you and your group starts putting things together, especially when you start adding the little details to your structures.

RUINED OR INTACT BUILDINGS

As can be seen from the in-progress shots of our buildings, we have incorporated rubble piles on some of the bases. We have also produced stand-alone piles for the table (above).

Another decision that has to be made, regardless of whether you are going modular or not and regardless of what materials you are using, is the structural integrity of your buildings. Are your buildings intact, or are they ruined? Are some ruined and some still standing? If you are working modular, you can get crazy and actually make ruined versions for all of the intact buildings on your table. Obviously, that means twice the work, but the potential for your gaming fun will increase with each building variant and its ruined replacement.

If you opt for a ruined city or a potentially ruined city, you might want to think about rubble piles and barricades. Games Workshop just put out some urban barricades that will make this step a lot easier. As far as rubble piles are concerned, do you want to have few stand-alone pieces, or do you want to build them directly onto your modules? It definitely makes sense to have debris strewn about your dilapidated buildings, but it will also be quite useful to have a few more mobile piles so that your games can constantly evolve.
