ABOVEGROUND AND UNDERGROUND ADDITIONS
hat does that entail? Well, aboveground details are things like landing pads, walkways between buildings, elevated trains. Some of these above ground details are much easier to pull off on non-modular tables (like matching floor heights and lining up windows), but necessity is the mother of invention, and you can develop a method to make these things happen. First, though, you and your group need to decide if these details are something that you want to add to your table. You could even do a table of all aboveground features, with nothing but catwalks and hanging bridges for movement!

We added above-ground details into our table (we ran out of time for underground additions). |
Underground detailing takes a little more work and may be something that you think about adding after your ground level table is done and has been explored fully by your gaming group. These projects involve adding terrain below street level in the form of another board (a separate table, perhaps). In theory, your troops can enter the underground through a basement, manhole, subway entrance, or trench. Once there, they can fight on the "underground" table and perhaps emerge back onto the main table at some point. As mentioned, this is just an idea to consider once you have finished your main City of Death and wish to continue building. Having said that, if this is something you aspire to, you might want to add some details (manholes, sewer grates, etc.) to your city table that will later allow you to connect the two gaming environments.
WATERWORKS
he decision to use water effects on your table can be an incredibly minor decision, or it can be a huge one – it all depends upon the scope of your concept. To decide to use water for puddles, overflowing sewers, and leaking pipes will not be of much consequence to your plan, but to decide to add a river (and the accompanying bridges) is a major decision that will greatly influence your city design. Again, there is no right and wrong in your design; there are just ideas that need to be considered and debated before you and your friends start to work on your City of Death.
