XENOS INCUSRION
![]() |
Got lots of hobby skills and energy? Build your own xenos city or modify an Imperial one. |
f you've got a gaming group of any significant size, you will have representatives from most of the armies in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Unfortunately, for now, there are only Imperial-styled building sprues. Do you want to make some buildings that have been corrupted or augmented by the alien species that your group fields? Why not have those players bring alien-influenced buildings and barricades that represent one of the stratagems in the Cities of Death expansion? Or, allow your players to model a certain number of buildings that might fall in their deployment zone or serve as their objective. However, don't lose sight of building your core Cities of Death table while you go off and make xenos-influenced buildings. You want to play on the table someday, right?
PAINTING
![]() |
We developed a painting scheme that was used on all of our ruins. We painted together so that we kept the look similar. |
p to this point, we've really only been discussing decisions that need to be made about the design of the table and the buildings. Now we finally get to painting! Like the building stage, you need to decide things like the division of labour: how much is each group member going to do? What is their role in the painting process? Do you want to have someone, maybe your most artistic member, develop a colour scheme? Do you want to have one night where everyone gets together and paints so that the look and feel of your structures is consistent? If you love specialisation, you could have just one person paint the basecoats on all of your buildings. Others could do details, and some could do all of the bases. Like the building design, your painting design should also have some kind of plan and process to make the project go a lot smoother.
