OR, USING OUR WEBSITE
The Games Workshop UK Online Website has undergone a major overhaul and redesign, stripping away the old, the out-of-date, and the broken pages which, in turn, together with a new look, has left us with a streamlined, easy-to-use website.
This guide gives a brief overview of the new features of the site, together with a quick walkthrough of the site's layout.
CONTENTS
THE NEW FEATURES
Having been redesigned and rebuilt, the new Games Workshop UK Online Website is a monstrous creation sporting several new features.
YOUR SITE
The 'Your Site' feature allows you to tailor the website to your own requirements, displaying only the information that is of interest to you. Simply enter the details of your favourite games, armies and other areas of importance to you, and each time you visit the page, you will be shown all the latest articles in your selected sections.
STORE FINDER
Newly
revised and updated, the Store Finder allows you
to search for all Hobby Centres and Independent
Stockists throughout the UK and Ireland. With a much improved search facility
in place, you can search not only by county, but also by postcode, telephone
area code, town and city.
If you still can't find the store you're after, there's even a graphical representation of the UK and Ireland that you can simply click on to see a full listing of all Hobby Centres and Independent Stockists in a given area.
Once you have found the store you're looking for, you can view full store details, including contact telephone numbers, opening times, local bus and train routes, and even see what products and game systems they hold in stock.
SEARCH FACILITY
Every article on the site has been catalogued and recorded, allowing you to perform a search for whatever articles you want. Simply enter any key words or phrases (such as "Mordor" or "Marneus Calgar") into the search field, select the area of the site you wish to search through (such as "The Lord of The Rings" or "Warhammer" etc), and let the search engine do the rest!
SITE MAP
The Site Map allows you to search the entire website at a glance. By indexing all the armies, races and factions across all three core game systems, you can view entire sections alphabetically. By selecting a letter and clicking on 'Show Sitemap' you can see all races beginning with that letter, together with a complete list of associated articles.
BREADCRUMBS & QUICK LINKS
A new feature to the website are the 'breadcrumbs', found at the bottom of every page. The breadcrumbs are covered in more detail under Navigation.
NAVIGATION
The website itself has been split into Games Workshop's three core game systems: Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of The Rings. These are clearly labelled in the navigation bar across the top of each page, together with links to the News page, Community homepage, White Dwarf homepage, and a link to the Specialists Games ranges.

Each of the three core game system sections has been divided into the component armies, forces and factions that make up that game system. Articles relating to each army have been included within each of the army/force pages, meaning that you should rarely have to make more than three clicks to get to the article you want!
eg Warhammer > Ogre Kingdoms > Ogre Kingdoms Miniatures
Each Section now features a set of 'basic' articles, found on each army homepage such as:
|
Who Are... |
Giving a brief overview of the race/army. |
|
Getting Started... |
Explaining all you need to know to start your chosen army. |
|
Miniatures Range... |
Displaying all current miniatures in each range. |
Other articles of interest found on each of the army homepages include:
|
Designers Notes... |
Often taken from White Dwarf, the designers' explain their thoughts and reasoning behind the army/force creation. |
|
Wallpapers... |
Download a series of desktop wallpapers to your computer |
|
Art Gallery... |
Showcasing the vivid art created during the visualisation process of designing the miniatures |
And of course, much, much more, such as terrain-building articles, painting guides, background stories and beyond.
SIDE
BAR NAVIGATION
The navigation panels, located down the left-hand side of each page, contain a number of panels with links to related articles and pages.
The topmost panel is the Recent Articles panel that displays the four newest articles to have been added to the current section you are viewing.
The Utilities panel includes a link to bookmark the present page, as well as links to email the page to someone else, or view a printable version of the page.
The final panel displays links to all areas associated to the section you are viewing. For example, while in the Warhammer 40,000 section, viewing the Imperial Guard homepage, you will see links to all other armies/races in the Warhammer 40,000 universe together with links to the Warhammer 40,000 Resource pages such as the Chapter Approved, Cityfight, Modelling, Painting and Terrain homepages.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS
The Lord of The Rings section of the website has been designed with the films and books in mind and, as such, can be viewed not only by race/faction as described above, but also by film and by book.
What does this mean? Quite simply, if you want to learn about the Dwarves of Moria for example, you may find what you want either by visiting the Dwarves homepage, or by visiting The Fellowship of The Ring homepage. In either case, both links are easily accessible from the navigation side bars on any of The Lord of The Rings homepages.
BREADCRUMBS & QUICK LINKS
Located at the bottom of each page of the website, the breadcrumb links allow you to keep trace of where you are in the site, and even allow you to back-track up through the levels.
Similarly, due to the nature of the website's architecture and the straight-forward naming conventions of files and folders used, you can simply type the address of the page you want to view into the address bar of your browser as shown below:
|
Dwarfs Homepage: |
/dwarfs/ |

COMMUNITY
The Community section of the website, accessible via the top navigation bar, now gathers together all information outside of the three core game systems, such as Events, Gaming Clubs and Forums etc.
EVENTS
The Events homepage now features a state-of-the-art Events Diary that not only displays all upcoming events, but also allows you to search for specific events and display the results of a search to your own requirements.
All information pertaining to specific events can now be found on the relevant event homepage, together with rules packs, reviews of previous events and details of forthcoming events.
Games Day and Golden Demon now have homepages devoted to them and showcase some of the previous years of our premier gaming event.
GAMING CLUBS
The pages contained here are a resource for people and hobbyists who are looking to set up their own gaming clubs or simply want to join existing clubs in their area. Whatever size or type of Gaming Club, we aim to provide support and advice. We want to encourage people to take part in and enjoy the hobby.
FORUMS
The Games Workshop Forums continue to be as popular as ever, providing a place for hobbyists to chat about games, talk about army tactics, find out about upcoming events and new releases, and discuss just about anything else related to the Games Workshop Hobby.
