Eldar Avatar with Green Stuff dreadlocks

Jack: I began by cutting the sword from the Avatar's right hand, taking care not to damage the blade, as this would be used later. I then trimmed the left hand, removed the blood drips, and twisted it slightly to give it a new pose.

The left hand would become the new weapon hand, carrying a long spear, created using the lance from the old Egrimm Van Horstman model. To do this, I carefully curled the fingers of the open hand into a holding position around the shaft of the lance, making sure that the lance's tip was facing the 'bottom' end of the spear.

Next I used the Avatar's sword (told you it'd get used later) and clipped off the hilt, just above the fourth gem, separating the blade. The blade was then carefully pinned to the 'top' end of the spear. Once the glue had dried, I then used Green Stuff at the join between the spear and spearhead to fill any gaps and to create the appearance of the head being tied to the shaft of the spear. I also used Green Stuff around the hand to create a cloth handgrip.

The shield was made from the flat base section of a small flying base. Onto this, more Green Stuff was sculpted to form the lizard skin. Once dry, the whole shield was then glued to the Avatar’s right hand (formerly its sword-arm).

All that remained was to redesign the head. I decided to remove the topmost piece of the head (the spiky bit) with a pair of clippers, and replace it with a series of dreadlocks that would flow down the model's back. Out came the old Green Stuff again to form a series of strands that were carefully layered across the back of the model.

And there you have it – one Eldar Avatar!
