Chaos ChampionRik: I've collected Chaos Space Marines for a while now, and am a distinct follower of Khorne – it's all that blood! Anyhoo, a Chaos Lord should look really cool and Champions of Khorne can have Juggernauts. Excellent.

However, I've always thought the current Juggernaut was missing something, looking far too static to represent the enormous, hulking brute of a daemon bound within the ceramite chassis. Time for some cutting and sticking.

I had a clear idea in my mind what I wanted to achieve, to repose the model in a more dynamic position that suggested movement and fearsome aggression.

I began by taking the main body of the Juggernaut and, using a modelling saw, cut the tail away from the body until I reached the top of the curve. Still attached, I then bent the tail away from the body.

The rear legs of the model required no converting at all, however the front legs had to be cut at the ankle, following the line of the second armoured strip across the foot. Having removed both front feet, I then rolled them forward so that the underside of the foot now rested on the newly cut stump of the leg. Green Stuff was then used to create a smooth rounded finish, building up the back of the creature's wrists.

Further converting was necessary, taking a wedge out of the front facing edge of each of the the front legs, immediately beneath the shoulder housing. By doing this, the leg could then be bent forwards. On the finished model, the eventual look is of the enormous beast drawing its forearms in to its body as it tries to keep its balance while rearing up with a Chaos Lord on its back.

With the legs finished, I set about repositioning the Juggernaut. This in itself was easy to accomplish, though it was necessary to adjust the head's position so that it would continue to point towards its intended victim! A final filling-in stage with Green Stuff to blend the components together, and the mount was completed, ready to paint.

Facing the Juggernaut   The Juggernaut rears up

The Rider was created using the torso of Khârn the Betrayer, and the legs of the original Juggernaut rider. Both sets of legs (Khârn's and the Champion's) were cut away following the line in the armour between hip and groin. The legs of the Champion were then pinned and glued to the torso of Khârn in their new position.

Khârn's right arm was cut away entirely and a new arm taken from an old Chaos Space Marine Biker used in its stead. Unfortunately, this component is not available as a single piece, though the Ravenwing Sergeant Power Sword Arm offers a similar pose. Khârn's axe was then transferred from his left hand to his right, and a small length of modelling chain attached to his left in its place, together with Khârn's own chains. To get the pose of the modelling chain, I used superglue to first make the links rigid, then gently coaxed them into various positions.

Finally, additional pieces I had lying around were added, such as the sheathed sword and holstered bolt pistol, both taken from the plastic Khorne Berzerker Space Marine sprue.
