Dave:
It all started about 4 years ago, when the Speed Freeks army list came out in
Codex: Armageddon, I decided that I needed a Battlewagon to transport my Skarboyz.
As my Warboss had destroyed a couple of Land Raiders in recent games, I decided
that my Mek would use these destroyed Land Raiders to build the mighty Battlewagon.
The first step was to make it wider than a normal Land Raider. To do this I cut out 5 lengths of sprue from the Land Raider frames to the width I wanted. These were then glued and pinned to the insides of the track sections, 3 along the bottom (front, middle and back) and 2 at the top (front and back). At the same time the front doors were cut in half, widened with Plasticard and put in place. The framework was complete.
The
floor was then put in using the Land Raider floor and some Plasticard, placed
on top of the sprues we put in at the bottom. Aluminium mesh was then placed
on top of the Plasticard for texture.
Next on the list was the engine block which was constructed from the Land Raider engines, the bottom bit of a Wartrukk, 3 barrels and Plasticard and was placed at the back.
The
front of the Battlewagon was completed by attaching the front of a Wartrukk
to the front top bit of the Land Raider and filled in the gaps with Plasticard.
The twin-linked heavy bolters from the Land Raider were replaced with 2 of the
Ork Dreadnought rokkit launchas. The speargun and wrecker trukk front plates
were added for extra armour.
The top was constructed from the passenger compartments from 2 Wartrukks with a strip of Plasticard between them to give it the width. The rock lobber supports and struts were affixed to the rear to make the mast. The legless Killa Kans were then assembled and put in place.
The
sides were then Orkyfied, with one of the hatchways on each side left open.
The Dreadnought front and the remaining Killa Kan front were then stuck over
the closed hatches. 'Planks' of Plasticard were then glued across the open hatches
and the rest of the sides to represent the extra armour plates.
To finish off the build, random Ork glyphs, banner tops and icons were placed around the vehicle to give it that bit more of an orky feel.
