I've always been fascinated by the background of the Thousand Sons, as well as
their Egyptian-inspired look. As soon as the new Codex: Chaos Space Marines was
released I decided to make a Thousand Sons force, but I was not satisfied with
the Chaos Terminator models representing my Aspiring Champions and Chosen. With
the release of the Daemonhunters range of miniatures, I finally had the chance
to make the kind of Terminators I'd imagined.
Taking one of the Grey Knight Terminators, I began by filing off everything that spelt "loyalist marine" on the figure and used Green Stuff to cover the distinctive Grey Knight shoulder pad.
For
the head, I then filed off the front and back of the Thousand Sons' helmet leaving
just the Egyptian-styled crests. To the front of this I glued the front half
of a Chaos Terminator helmet. Having already filed away the front half of the
Grey Knight Terminator head, I was then able to take my new Thousand Sons Terminator
head, and fix it in place.
For
the weapon I decided to use a glaive taken from one of the Tomb Kings Ushabti.
With a small amount of modification, I removed the hands and forearms of the
Ushabti and cut the glaive in half, just below the hilt. This was then pinned
in place of the Grey Knight's Nemesis Halberd.
The metal "cloth", taken from the Thousand Sons bolter sprue was then fitted between the leg plates of the Terminator, and the front of the wrist-mounted storm bolter was replaced an exhaust/gun barrel/gargoyle head taken from the Chaos vehicle sprue. Finally, an eye was sculpted in Green Stuff, replacing the original Liber Daemonica symbol on the breastplate.
