Christian: I wanted to create a general for my Chaos army - something suitably bloodthirsty. So I decided to create a mounted Khorne Champion to lead my horde out of the Northern Wastes.

Putting the horse together was easy enough, first filing each of the pieces to achieve a snug fit. I used the horse head taken from the mounted Chaos sorcerer as it suited the overall look I wanted for the character.

The rider was a bit trickier. First he had to be filed in places so that he would sit properly on the horse. Then I had to use Green Stuff to build an elbow joint between the body and the weapon hand.

This was my first ever attempt to use Green Stuff for sculpting purposes, and I was a bit wary. I started with a length of wire between the two sections and covered this with Green Stuff, building up the first layer - this would form the layer of chain mail beneath the armour plates. Once dry, I then used more Green Stuff to create the armour plates on the forearm and, once that had dried, I used yet more Green Stuff for the elbow plate. Phew!

When all the parts had dried, I used a micro drill bit to bore tiny holes into first layer of Green Stuff, to make it look like chain mail.

To create the snowy base I got a little icing sugar, some PVA glue and some Games Workshop 'Ard Coat - in a pot, not the spray. I mixed these together into a gunky paste and carefully applied it to the base with a bit of stiff card. It's important to be careful putting this on, so as not to get any on the model itself. Once the 'snow' was dry, the model was spray undercoated Chaos Black and then painted.
