Nick: As a lover of all things Lizardmen, I have always been fascinated by the special characters, and of those, Nakai has always been my favourite. With the Oyxl and the Lost Valley campaign on my hectic schedule, I saw the chance to build and use Nakai for the purposes of the event, in a generally unpleasant 'oh my god he's in the trees' type fashion.

I started this project with a little inspiration from my friend, Kevin Martin, who suggested Be'Lakor as a base model, while I was trying everything from Ogres and Trolls to resin Kroot! With that simple and excellent solution in mind, I was off.

I started by taking Be'Lakor's hands, and snipping and filing off the little finger on each hand, to ensure that Nakai had the correct amount of digits for a Kroxigor. Next I filed and clipped off all the more 'Chaosy' parts, such as the star on his chest, and assembled the body, legs and left arm of Be'Lakor. Next, I took the chain loincloth and swivelled it round to the rear of the model to cover up the place where Be'Lakor's tail would be. This takes a little bending of the top tabs on the cloth to ensure it lies downwards.

Next in line was the front of Nakai, and covering up where the loincloth would normally have gone. What I wanted here, was something a little more Lustrian than another loincloth, and so the first of the two Slann banners was used. I clipped it down to just the top two square glyphs, then filed the back into a curve that would allow this plate to fit between Nakai's legs. This now in place, I tackled the daunting part, Nakai's weapon. I wrestled with many ideas, the laziest being just to use Be'Lakor's sword, but instead I sucked in my gut and did it the hard way! This is where the second Slann banner comes in. Again you will need to trim off the side parts, leaving just the four glyph plates, but try to keep one of the tassels from the bottom.

Lizardmen KroxigorYou will need to pin these four glyph plates to Nakai's right hand, and ensure it is well stuck! Next, take the spikes from the Slann sprue, five in total, and pin those in a line down one edge of the four glyph plates. A point to note here is that it is all too easy to be lazy with these, and just glue them on, as I did originally, but it becomes frustrating when these spikes subsequently break off. Take it from me, in the long run, all that tedious pinning will be well worth it! This all done, I had a hand with a big spiky sword on it. To finish it off, I attached the little tassel I'd saved to the hilt dangling down, and voila, one big and nasty Lustrian style sword. I then pinned the sword and hand on, leaving only one job left to do - his head.

It took me a couple of tries to get this right, but you need to clip off a little of the Cold One neck to stick to where the head for Be'Lakor would go. I found roughly 1.5cm is about right - this gave me the ball to attach the Cold One head to, and avoided the need for extensive Green Stuff modelling around the neck.

With this all done, I had a 95% finished Nakai, all that was left was the Green Stuff to do. Luckily there was very little, as I am not exactly a genius with Green Stuff. All I needed to do was fill in where the wings of Be'Lakor would normally have gone, and a little tidying up around the neck. As a finishing touch I used the glyph from the Slann Spike sprue over the chest as a talisman.

Horizontal Rule

Following the success of Nakai the Wander at the 2005 Warhammer Campaign Weekend, and in response to a huge number of requests from those who attended the event, we decided it'd be a great idea to include the rules for Nakai here on the website so that you could use him in your Lizardmen armies in games of Warhammer.

Please Note. These rules for Nakai are in no way 'official' and, as such, may not be used in tournaments, or other events except where specifically stated beforehand. In addition, you must get the permission of your opponent before including him in your army.
