There are many deadly Dark Elf characters who have terrorised the Old World for countless centuries. Unfortunately, there are no models for some of these spiteful creatures available for you to use in your games so we held a competition to see who could convert the best ones.
Here David Warnier shows us his winning model of Kouran that he converted for the competition.
Parts
Used:
Dark Elf Black Guard Champion with helmet and sword
Howling Banshee Exarch
Dark Rider Command Group Standard
Conversion:
In the previous edition of Warhammer Armies: Dark Elves, Kouran was
armed with the Blade of Ensorcelled Iron, but as there is a magical halberd
in the new book, I decided to arm him with this 'Crimson Death'. The basis for
my conversion was a Black Guard Champion with helmet and sword. The right hand
was removed and the sword was glued back together. I put a pin in the right
hand and used tubing to make the shaft of the halberd. The head of the huge
weapon is the standard from the Dark Riders. Both the upper arms were cut in
two and then rotated so the angle would be right.
The helmet was the most difficult part of the conversion. I cut off the top part of the existing helmet and replaced it with the top part of an Eldar Howling Banshee Exarch. The little horns of the old helmet were removed and glued onto the new one. With some Green Stuff I modelled (or tried to at least) the flame-like shape that appears on all the helmets of the Black Guard. This new headgear makes Kouran taller and different from the other Black Guard champions, but at the same time it makes him stand out as the absolute leader. I attached the arms after the painting was done. As a final touch I cut a skull in half and glued it to the base. The base was then sprinkled with coastal sand over PVA glue. Kouran also fits into a regiment and can be used as an 'ordinary' Hero.
