Scourges of Mirkwood
CONVERTING UNIQUE SPIDER QUEENS

Though they refuse to see themselves as pawns of the Necromancer, the spiders of Mirkwood are wholly Evil and deadly. The cruelly intelligent Spider Queen leads this brood. Ty Finocchiaro shows you how to give your Spider Queen models a unique twist.

Spider Queens with Broodlings in tow creep through the dense foliage of Mirkwood in search of prey.

The Fall of the Necromancer supplement has finally opened the door for Evil players to field hordes of Giant Spiders! An essential part of the dark forces that transformed Greenwood into Mirkwood, Giant Spiders are the progeny of bloated Spider Queens. Many unfortunate travellers have met their fate trapped in a massive web in Mirkwood as eight-legged death slowly crept its way down from the dark canopy above. With Evil players likely wanting multiple Spider Queens to lead a force, conversion work to personalize these poison-hearted beasts will be very hard to resist.

Taking some time to convert a Spider Queen, no matter how minor, will add that extra bit of unique charm (or repugnance...) that'll distinguish your scuttling horrors each from another. Besides, it's just too much of an Evil temptation to mash the Shelob and Spider Queen kits together in order to birth new nightmares for your opponents to face! The next few pages showcase three such conversions, both simple and complex, along with some brief text on how they were created. Plus, there's a section on how to go about making your Spider Queen bases (they have a lot of room to work with!) a little more interesting. Simply click a Spider Queen's name below to learn more.
