Far From the Hold
MODELLING, CONVERTING & PAINTING RANGERS

Though Dwarfs are known for their impressive holds, there are times when they must leave, be it for commerce or to settle a longstanging grudge. These Dwarfs are known as Rangers, and they are hardy travellers indeed. Find out how to convert and paint Dwarf Rangers here.

Dwarf RangersRangers are Dwarfs so hearty and fierce that they have left the protection of the mountain holds to set up shop above ground, including in the world of Men. These clans are constantly defending their mines, smithies, and breweries from all manner of foul creatures, most commonly greenskins. Quite often, the Rangers will journey out of their settlements to hunt down and exact revenge on the villains that have wronged them (or who they believe intend to wrong them). A few swipes of the great axe is all it takes for the Rangers to get their point across.

Rangers are a 0-1 Core unit choice in the new Dwarf army. As long as they have been equipped with a great weapon, any unit of Warriors, Longbeards, or Quarrellers can be upgraded to Rangers for a single point per model. This +1 point/model upgrade gives the unit the Scouts special rule. To make Rangers even more versatile, Warrior and Longbeard Rangers can be given throwing axes at a cost of another +1 point/model.

If you combine all of these weapon and armour choices with ideas about surviving in the rugged outdoors, many conversion ideas spring to mind. Furthermore, due to the individual nature of Dwarfs, your Rangers can all be painted using different colour schemes with some unifying theme. This article will show you a few neat ideas on how to make minor alterations to your Rangers to make them uniquely posed, and a few ideas on how to go about painting the various trappings of these rugged warriors.
