In an Elder Age of Middle-earth, far below the ancestral Halls of Durin in the mountain's roots, the Dwarves toiled. They mined precious mithril and traded this metal with the Elves for their war against Sauron. The Dwarf Kings watched and grew wealthy, but their mining unlocked dark secrets deep within the earth. The Balrog, a demon of the ancient world was released, slaying the Kings and chasing the Dwarves from their ancestral home.
