STRIKING SCORPIONS

STEP 1: After you have undercoated your model with Chaos Black, start off with a nice basecoat of Dark Angels Green over all the armour. Then, paint the faceplate and neck tubing with a mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey. Leave the weaponry, hair, and holsters Chaos Black for now.

STEP 2: Go back over the armour plates with a coat of Snot Green. Highlight the faceplate and neck tubing with Shadow Grey. Moving onto the metallics, paint the Skuriken Pistol, sword hilt, Mandiblasters, and hair ends with Brazen Brass.

STEP 3: Finish the armour with a highlight of watered-down Scorpion Green over the armour edges. Drybrush the gun cord Fortress Grey followed by a quick highlight drybrush of Skull White. Mix a drop of Mithril Silver with Brazen Brass and apply the blend to the metal areas for a highlight.

STEP 4: Moving onto the finer details of the model, paint the holster and any straps with Scorched Brown, the chainsword teeth with Boltgun Metal, and the raised armour ridges with Golden Yellow. The Golden Yellow will take a few coats to reach full opacity, so be patient.

STEP 5: While you still have yellow on your brush, paint the armour ridges with Sunburst Yellow. Go back over the Scorched Brown areas with a highlight of Dark Flesh. Paint the reaming areas like grenades, hair, weapon bits, and extra clips with Chaos Black.

STEP 6: Highlight the Chaos Black areas with a few lines of carefully placed Codex Grey. Next, very carefully paint the eyes, first with Blood Red and then go back and add a tiny dot of Skull White to mimic light reflection. Paint the base and the gemstones to your liking, apply some transfers, and you're all set!

Gemstones: To learn how to paint gemstones in a step-by-step fashion, check out this article. Then, come on back and try your hand at painting the model's gemstones using the following colour scheme: Blood Red (base colour), Blazing Orange (first mid-tone), Golden Yellow (second mid-tone), and Skull White (highlight).
