ELROND AND GIL-GALAD

Elrond is old even amongst the immortal Elves, having fought against Sauron in an earlier age and seen the Ring taken by Isildur before it was lost. He is the master of Rivendell and the greatest amongst the wise of Middle-earth. His judgement that the Ring should be destroyed starts the Fellowship on their perilous quest. Gil-galad was the most mighty warrior of his age and the leader of the Elves in the Last Alliance of Men and Elves against Sauron. He fell in that battle but thanks to his sacrifice Sauron was defeated though not, alas, destroyed. Gil-galad puts the lives of his fellow Elves and all of Middle-earth before his own. He is completely fearless in the face of danger, no matter how horrible the odds or how terrifying the foe. |
