olkmar the Grim, Grand Theogonist of the Cult of Sigmar, is one of the most powerful Men in the Empire. Before the invasion of Archaon the Everchosen, Volkmar had been the sternest adherent of Sigmar's teachings, but malicious rumour-mongers cast doubts upon his devotion to the ideals of the Empire's warrior god. For days at a time he would lock himself in the secret repository of the tomes of forbidden lore, in search of an answer to the dark menace gathering in the far north.

Convinced only he could save the Empire, the fiery Volkmar marched north at the head of an army of Flagellants and Talabecland state troops to do battle with Archaon over the barren tundra of the Troll Country. Though the Grand Theogonist and his warriors fought heroically, they could not defeat the power of Archaon, and Volkmar himself was cut down by the Everchosen's daemon sword. Rather than allow the Grand Theogonist to rest in peace, the Daemon Be'lakor dragged Volkmar's soul back to his ravaged flesh and chained him to a daemonic standard in undying torment. Volkmar's spirit was forged of steel and he fought the malign influence of Chaos with every fibre of his being. During the Siege of Middenheim, Volkmar tore free from his hellish bondage and smote the Daemons with the enchanted chains that had once held him.
