HOBBY GURUS OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORIES
Outriders are hobbyists who have been painting and playing games with toy soldiers for many years. They have a deep understanding of the Games Workshop universe and the rules of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of the Rings.
WHO ARE THE OUTRIDERS?
They are bunch of dedicated gamers who want to share their passion for the hobby with others, and have chosen to pursue this holy hobby crusade in the service of Games Workshop.
After training, dressing in the Outrider's distinctive blue and white shirt, and arming themselves with nothing but their faith in the Emperor and armfulls of miniatures, they head out on the road to run events, never faltering in the line of fire.
Currently we only have Outriders in Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
WHAT DO OUTRIDERS DO?
The Outriders' main duty is to visit independent retail stores to run Missions. Missions are a series of events including:
Intro Games
Fun, fast and furious games that introduce new hobbyists to the core Games Workshop games (Warhammer, Warhammer 40,00 and The Lord of The Rings). The Outrider brings along everything that's needed to play and will help out with rules and advice, all you need to do is turn up and join in the excitement.
Intro Painting Classes
This part of the Outriders Mission is a miniature painting course. Under the watchful eye of the Outrider, hobbyists are taken through the basic painting techniques needed to paint a unit. The Outrider is on hand to share his or her knowledge and useful painting tips too.
Gaming
After learning the rules in an Intro Game and mastering the basics of painting it's time to get gaming properly. Participants are encouraged to paint up one unit or squad using their new skills so that they can join others in a larger battle, supervised by the Outrider.
You will also find Outriders at large events like Fanatic Tournaments, Grand Tournaments, shows and fairs and running Intro Games in some unusual places as well, from cinema lobbies to libraries!
Outriders who really like to get their hands dirty are often assigned to the Special Projects team. These fanatical hobbyists build large amounts of scenery for use in tournaments, special displays and basically anything else you can imagine that involves paint, polystyrene, cardboard, wood, glue and a serious lack of sleep!
Most Outriders have contacts with local clubs in their area and regularly help out when asked (and sometimes even when they are not asked)!
HOW TO SPOT AN OUTRIDER
Outriders are remarkably easy to spot. All you have to do is to look for the enthusiastic individual (usually jumping around like mad and yelling out a battlecry at the top of his or her voice) dressed like the fine specimen shown here!
Other tell tale signs you've found an Outrider include:
- Back bent double, overburdened with carry cases and boxes bursting with armies and scenery, rules books, packed lunches, large amounts of chocolate...
- Black or white fingernails from undercoating miniatures.
- Lack of fingerprints (removed due to extensive use of superglue).
- Thinks only in Citadel colours "My living room walls aren't beige, they're Bleached Bone."
- Large amounts of dice stuffed into their pockets (you can never have enough!).
- Recognising 10 digit numbers as product codes rather than phone numbers.
- A beaming smile appearing instantly if you show interest in the hobby.
- The ability to chat for hours should you mention that you are a gamer too, so be prepared!
