TACTICAL SPOTLIGHT
Dalymar, the Fleetmaster of Umbar, is a notorious assassin from the land of Harad. This article gives advice on how best to use this Harad hero.
Which is better, a pirate or a ninja? The answer, my learned friend, is simple - Dalamyr, Fleetmaster of Umbar. He is both a dreaded Corsair and a member of the deadly H'sharii, the Haradrim order of assassins. Dalamyr therefore wields considerable power within the Harad capitol and is one of the most feared and influential figures in the Southlands. Not only does he have command of all the raiding parties of Umbar, he also has the skills of a H'sharin should his quarry not have the good sense to run and hide.
HERO AT A GLANCE
With 3 Attacks, a Fight value of 5 and poisoned weapons that allow you to re-roll failed to-Wound rolls, Dalamyr will cut through swathes of enemy troops and all but the toughest of enemy heroes. Armed with poisoned throwing daggers and Smoke Bombs, which will hit on an impressive 3+, Dalamyr is exceptional on the charge. Against lowly Warriors, his poisoned throwing daggers will give him a good chance to kill the foe as he charges in, leaving him free to engage another model. Against Heroes, Dalamyr's Smoke Bombs can rob a Hero of their fighting prowess and leave them at the mercy of the Fleetmaster's blades. Perhaps the most important of all of Dalamyr's abilities is his Stalk Unseen special rule. As long as Dalamyr remains at least partially concealed, then it is unlikely that his opponent will be able to retaliate.

ARMY OF CHOICE
Dalamyr is a must-have choice for a pure Corsair Fleet army. After all, he is the Fleetmaster! Whilst all Corsairs have throwing daggers and a decent Fight value, they struggle to take down elite foes or named heroes - just the sort of thing at which Dalamyr excels. Corsairs are more effective on the charge, and as we all know, you never get the priority when you need it most - hence the need to call a Heroic Movement. Dalamyr only has 1 Might point, though, which is probably best saved for winning that vital combat or when he misses with his Smoke Bombs. Therefore, try keeping a Corsair Captain close at hand to call those Heroic moves and maybe even a Bo'sun to improve everyone's fighting potential. If fielding an army of Umbar, then why not team Dalamyr up with another H'sharin? Two of these deadly assassins will make any hero watch their back.
Smoke Bombs. Dalamyr carries several pouches and vials containing powders that explode with a fierce flash of light and a cloud of acrid smoke. These are throwing weapons with a Strength of 1. If hit and not killed, the target must expand a Will point or be stunned by the fiery detonation for the rest of the turn, exactly as if subject to a Transfix magical power. If Dalamyr ever rolls a 1 to hit with a Smoke Bomb, his supplies have run out and he cannot use them for the remainder of the battle. |
UNSTOPPABLE?
With 3 points of Fate, 2 Wounds and the Preternatural Agility special rule, Dalamyr is going to be a tough target to pin down in a fight. If Dalamyr has one weakness, though, it is cavalry. If Dalamyr is knocked to the ground by cavalry, then he doesn't benefit from his Preternatural Agility and will take double strikes. All the leaping and dodging in the world is useless when you've been knocked sprawling on the floor. Getting a charge on Dalamyr is easier said than done if he's in cover. His Stalk Unseen rule will mean that unless you're within 6"/14cm, you won't be able to see him and hence he can't be charged. Consider luring him out with a couple of brave (read: expendable) troops, and when he's out in the open, then run him through!
