I Make the Earth Shake
TAKING THE WAR MÛMAK OF HARAD ONE STEP FURTHER

ROPES

The Mûmakil from the films have lots of rigging and ropes intertwined among the howdah on their backs. To re-create these additions, we'll simply drill a few holes and glue some wire in place. The finished effect is well worth this relatively minor effort.

Drilling the Howdah
Glueing the string
Attaching string to the howdah

Use a pin vice to drill into the top two posts facing the front of the model. Use an upward angle and go slowly – you do not want to drill straight through the plastic post! Get your hands on some 32-gauge, cloth-wrapped wire. This stuff is available at any floral shop or craft store. It's a bit easier to use compared to plain old string, as it holds its shape and can be bent and twisted as you see fit. Add a drop of superglue to a length of wire and place it in the drilled hole.

Drilling the forks
Adding the rope
Repeat for each corner

Make another hole in one of the front posts that hang over the head of the Mûmak. Cut the wire to fit and glue it in place, then repeat for the adjacent post. Keep adding wires as you see fit on the sides and rear.
