Tribes of Harad
NEW TROOP TYPES FOR THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Mat Ward returns with details of the tribes of Harad. From the client kings to the Corsairs of Umbar, the Haradrim are a varied people, although something they all share is a great resolve.

Khandish Mercenaries prepare to strike against the Knights of Dol Amroth

Harad is a truly vast place, covering more land than any other realm in Middle-earth. As a consequence of this, its people can be as similar to one another as Men of Dol Amroth are to Men of Minas Tirith, but often they are as different from each other as the Men of Minas Tirith are from the Men of Dunland. Here we take a closer look at these diverse lands. Also included are some profiles and conversion ideas for troops and heroes from those lands that you can use in your games of The Lord of The Rings. Just remember to get your opponent's permission first!

SPECIAL RULES:
Poisoned Arrows. The Haradrim often smear the tips of their arrows with the preserved venom of reptiles or scorpions living in their distant lands. Each time a Merchant Guard hits an enemy with a shooting attack, but rolls a 1 on the dice to wound it, he must re-roll the dice.

Loyal Unto Death. At the beginning of the game choose one Haradrim Hero among those in your force for all of your Merchant Guard to protect. Any Merchant Guard within 6"/14cm of that hero may re-roll failed Courage tests.

THE WARDENS OF UMBAR

Umbar has changed hands many number of times in its history, as Gondor and Harad vied for control over her harbour. The last change of power left the city firmly in the hands of the Haradrim and the Black Númenórean lords.

The Lords of Umbar are far from weak, as one might be fooled into thinking when looking upon their formidable guards, rather they are cautious in the extreme, and not without good cause - for assassination attempts and small-scale coups are a regular occurrence in the political climate of Umbar's ruling council. When such fracas break out, the Wardens will fight like men possessed to protect their lords, for their status and reputation relies solely on his survival.
