MODELLING AND PAINTING THE SHEPHERDS OF THE TREES
With the release of the new Ents kit for The Lord of The Rings, the forces of Good can now bolster their armies with these Shepherds of the trees. Ty Finocchiaro looks at ways of modelling and painting Ents.

Ents emerge from their forest to smash the unwary Uruk-hai.
If you're a player who bravely stands for all that's good and just in Middle-earth, yet suffer from a bit of "Troll Envy", your prayers have been answered! After countless battles against Fell Beasts, Armoured Trolls, Cave Trolls, Spider Queens, Balrogs, Giant Spiders, and other assorted Evil baddies on huge bases, the forces of Good now have their own heavy hitters – Ents! Slow to anger and ponderous in everything they do, these towering behemoths are unstoppable once roused. A nasty stat line and a fantastic miniature, the Ents are sure to please the servants of Good.
The Ent boxed set comes with something The Lord of The Rings SBG fans have been clamoring for: extra bits. It features a choice of two heads, four arms, and three back branches. The gangly arms (which can be easily bent) and nature of the tree-like Ents (easy to fill and sculpt gaps with putty) allow for many, many poses. Combined, these factors open wide a realm of conversion possibilities to modellers of all skill levels. Essentially, no two Ents ever have to be alike if you put some effort into them.
This article showcases three such conversions, including both the simple and the complex, along with some brief text on how each was created. Plus, there's a pair of very basic step-by-step guides on how to go about painting Ent bark.
