WHY COLLECT THIS ARMY?
This force is largely drawn from the Core sections of the army list. That means it's a great place to start a High Elf force – all those Core units give you real "growing room" for the future. The fact that it is also entirely plastic means that you can collect it easily.
STRENGTHS
- Although this is a "Core" army, in a very real sense, it's still far more elite than many forces you will encounter in Warhammer. Every model has a Weapon Skill of 4 or better, and Leadership 8 is found throughout the army. Other, lesser mortals would do well to bear in mind just how deadly "Core" High Elves can be.
- This army has a lot of models in it for a High Elf force. That's a good thing if you're going up against a horde army like Skaven, Goblins or Undead.
- It can compete in each phase of the game. The Spearmen, Silverhelms and Chariot can dominate slower, less-elite warriors in the close combat phases, while the Archers and Eagle Claws will shower the enemies in white-fletched arrows and bolts. The Wizard will ensure that the Magic Phase is as painless for the High Elves as possible.
AREAS OF CAUTION
- This is not a true weakness really, but since this army lacks many of the exciting (and often especially deadly) Special choices like Sword Masters or the Lion Chariot, it can struggle against elite units in the enemy force. Of course, with time, you can always add a couple of rock-hard elite High Elf units of your own in...
TACTIC: CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES
The philosophy when using this army is to play to your own strengths. Use the Archers and Bolt Throwers to kill off any enemy units that your Spearmen and Silverhelms might struggle to eliminate – that includes heavy cavalry and elite infantry (like Chaos Warriors or Black Orcs). High Elf Spearmen, thanks to the Speed of Asuryan , should be able to deal with any lesser infantry, backed up by the Chariot and Silver Helms who can use their speed and manoeuvrability to get into the flanks of the foe.
