Hobbit Characters
A PAINTING WORKSHOP FOR THE SCOURING OF THE SHIRE
BY DOMINIC MURRAY

Knowing your Fatty Bolgers from your Farmer Maggots is all part of Hobbit life. Despite the differences between these characters, there are some simple painting techniques that you can use on all manner of Hobbit folk. On the following pages, we will show you how to paint some of the characters from the new Scouring of the Shire supplement.

Here we start our look at Hobbit characters, starting with Fatty Bolger:

Trousers

Steps 1 - 3

You can make Fatty, one of the largest Hobbit characters, stand out with a few simple techniques. Almost all Hobbits wear jackets and trousers. Thus, it's well worth practicing how to paint these items of clothing.

1

First, paint Fatty's trousers a basecoat of Scorched Brown. Add a small quantity of Bleached Bone to the Scorched Brown and highlight the edges of the trousers.

2

Add a little more Bleached Bone to your mix and highlight the edges and raised areas of Fatty's trousers.

3

To finish off, paint the buttons with Chainmail.

Jacket

Steps 1 - 4
1

Highlight Fatty's jacket with a mix of two parts Chaos Black to one part Scorched Brown.

2

Add Fortress Grey to the mix and paint the raised areas near the creases and edges of the jacket.

3

To finish the cloth, add more Fortress Grey and pick out the edges of the jacket.

4

Finally, paint the buttons with Chainmail.
