When building a Warhammer army, the best place to begin is its respective Army book. These books are indispensable, as they not only provide you with the complete rules and army lists for your Hordes of Chaos army, but also give you guides for painting, assembling, and selecting your army. Plus, you'll learn the background story of these diabolical monsters, a story you can find nowhere else.
Warhammer Armies: Hordes of Chaos is one in a series of Warhammer Armies supplements. Each book in the series provides an in-depth description of an army, its history, and its heroes. Inside, you will find:
Armies of Chaos
A complete description of the troops from the northern Chaos Wastes, including
both the Mortal and Daemonic warriors of the Gods of Chaos.
Chaos Magic
Full rules for Chaos Sorcerers and three new spell lores, magic item descriptions,
Daemonic gifts, and details of the Marks of the Dark Gods.
Painting a Chaos Horde
Advice on how to paint your own army, with useful tips and plenty of examples
of painting techniques and different colour scheme ideas.
Favoured of Chaos
Rules for your army to be led by the almighty Archaon, Lord of the End Times,
or to include the ancient, mutated dragon Galrauch, first and greatest of the
Chaos Dragons.
There
is not one but several divergent armies of Chaos, for Chaos is the embodiment
of entropy. However, whether it be a force of daemons from the Northern Wastes
or a horde of warbands led by mighty Chaos Champions, all armies of Chaos have
one characteristic in common. They are extremely effective in close combat and
are relatively small in number compared to the serried ranks of, say, the Empire,
or the multitudinous hordes of the Skaven or Orcs & Goblins. In short, Chaos
Lords, Greater Daemons, Marauders, Knights of Chaos, Bloodletters of Khorne,
Spawn of Chaos, and many of the other troop types available to a Chaos general,
excel at smashing the enemy at close quarters but are expensive in terms of
points cost.
Commanding a Chaos army can be as simple or as complex as you like, from the most basic battleplan to complicated strategies that take full advantage of the eclectic mix of troops available to you.
