MAKING CHAOS MONOLITHS
No one is entirely sure of the purpose of the monoliths that have
been dedicated to the Gods of Chaos. Some believe them to be the sites
of dark rituals, while others believe them to be focal points through which
the Ruinous Powers can be concentrated. What is certain is that they are
altogether evil...
Chaos Monoliths litter the Chaos Wastes up north. They are
weird, powerful, and fun to make! In the following pages we'll show you some
ideas about how to make a monolith for each of the four powers as well as Chaos
Undivided. To check them all out, use the link at the bottom of this page.
We'll start with a Chaos Undivided monolith. This will basically be a tall
finger of rock adorned with a Chaos symbol.

|
Draw your monolith shape using a pen on the surface of a piece of polystyrene
insulation foam (found at most do-it-yourself stores). Using a sharp
knife cut out the shape of your monolith. Be sure to cut away from yourself.

 |
|

|
Arrange the pieces until you find them compositionally pleasing. Try
and make sure that piece will meet up and glue flush so that you can
not see any gap.
|
|

|
Glue the pieces together with PVA white glue. While
the glue dries, cut a piece of MDF hardboard and bevel the edges to serve
as the base of your monolith. Attach your final structure
to the MDF hardboard base using PVA white or wood glue. Fill any gaps
with filler putty or wood glue. Attach a Chaos symbol (like the one found
in the
Chaos Warrior regiment) at this point if you wish.
|
|

|
Texture the monolith using a fine or coarse sand. Using an old brush,
spread one part water, two parts wood glue all over the monolith and
then dip it in sand. Let the sand and glue dry completely before basing
the monolith.
|
|

|
Be sure to paint your undercoat directly onto the monolith rather than
using an aerosol undercoat as it will melt the polystyrene. Flock the
base using sand and stones. Base coat, highlight and shade your monolith
any
colour you wish. After all it is Chaos!
