Blood on the Mark
CONVERTING WARG RIDERS

Page: 1|2|3

Ty Finocchiaro: The second round of work began when I spied my models of Sam and Frodo in Orc armour just sitting around. The armoured helmets on those models are super rad, so I decided to hack 'em off (this took some effort) for use in my next two Warg conversions. Both of these models (the two on the left in the photos) needed some extra love to get the new heads in their new places on the plastic Warg Rider bodies. For the Frodo model, I only had to sculpt a bit of a leather shirt and some straps to secure the new head. Sam, however, needed a completely new ring of fur around the neck to hold the head in place. A quick sword-in-quiver conversion for both finished off these two models nicely.

Continuing my happy head-cutting spree, I detached two more heads from the Mordor Orc sprue and trimmed them down to fit on the shoulders of a plastic Warg Rider body. These two heads fit into place almost perfectly. A little putty work in the form of hair was all it took, really. In terms of arms, the model on the far right happens to be my only left-handed Orc. I made the south paw by removing the previous weapon and drilling straight through the hand in a most careful manner. Then, I just slipped a throwing spear right into place.

Keen observers may have noted by now that my Wargs have some putty work on them as well. I filled in the line created by the two halves of the creature with a bit of Green Stuff and then sculpted it to look like fur. In addition to filling this gap, I sculpted additional fur onto the "bald" spot present above the hind quarters on this plastic model. I just didn't like that flat spot too much — I guess I like my Wargs hairy. Besides, it would make painting that area much easier later.
