PAINTING DWARF RANGERS
Dwarf Rangers patrol the lands around every Dwarf Hold to ensure the safety of their homes from the Dark Lord's servants and wandering monsters. To help them track their foes and blend in with their surroundings, Dwarf Rangers are more likely to wear natural colours than their kin. Below, you will find a step-by-step guide for painting a Dwarf Ranger of Khazad-dûm. Start out by undercoating your model with Chaos Black, let it dry, and then follow the instructions below.
| 1 | First, start by painting the face and hands of your Dwarf with Tallarn Flesh Citadel Foundation Paint. Then, paint the beard with Calthan Brown Citadel Foundation Paint. Be sure to water your paints down a little to keep the detail of the model from being obscured. |
| 2 | For your first highlight, add a layer of Dwarf Flesh to the face and hands and then highlight the beard with some Vermin Brown. Paint the Dwarf's shirt with Scorched Brown and the skirt and arms with Dark Angels Green. |
| 3 |
Next, add a layer of Elf Flesh to the face and hands. Highlight the beard with a 1:1 mix of Vermin Brown to Bleached Bone. Highlight the shirt with a 1:1 mix of Scorched Brown and Vermin Brown. Then, highlight the skirt and arms with a 1:1 mix of Dark Angels Green and Goblin Green. |
| 4 |
For the last highlight on the hands and face, mix up a 1:1 ratio of Elf Flesh and Skull White. Highlight the shirt with straight Vermin Brown. Then, highlight the skirt and arms with Goblin Green. You can then highlight the boots with a 1:1 mix of Chaos Black and Bleached Bone. |
| 5 | Next, paint the axe heads with Boltgun Metal. It's always a good idea to either clean your water or use a separate water pot for you metallic paints so that you don't get metal flakes mixed in with your regular colours. Now, paint the Dwarf's legs with Tausept Ochre Citadel Foundation Paint and the axe handles with Scorched Brown. Then, paint the belts Dark Flesh. |
| 6 | Highlight the axe heads with Chainmail. Then, highlight the legs with a 1:1 mix of Tausept Ochre and Bleached Bone. You can now paint the Dwarf's cloak with Adeptus Battlegrey Citadel Foundation Paint. Highlight the axe handles with Dark Flesh and highlight the belts with a 1:1 mix of Dark Flesh and Vermin Brown. |
| 7 |
For the final highlight on the axes, use Mithril Silver. Next, highlight the cloak with Codex Grey. Then, carefully paint the whites of the Dwarf's eyes with Skull White. Adding a small amount of water will make the paint flow smoothly from the brush. |
| 8 |
Lastly, highlight the cloak with Fortress Grey and paint the studs on the shirt and the belt buckle with Chainmail. Finally, paint a black dot in each eye for the pupils. |
