TUNNEL FIGHTING TACTICS

THE FLYING AXE

It's a strange name, "the Flying Axe," but once you've seen it in action, you'll see why I call it that! The philosophy with this tactic is to use Dwarves in the way I've always imagined them fighting: storming toward the enemy as fast as their legs will take them, axes at the ready.

For the Flying Axe, place your hardest model (Durin or Dain, generally for most Dwarf players) at the head of the formation. Next place, two more behind him – these should be the tough, deadly warriors. Then, two more behind them to form a V-shape...you get the idea. The ends of the V should be capped by another Hero each, if you have them. Lastly, in the centre of the formation, place a Dwarf with a banner.

The basic plan here is to storm into the enemy as fast as possible and inflict maximum carnage with all your models. Used right, this can blast a hole right through an enemy shield wall. If your foe isn't organized enough to have a shield wall prepared, then woe-betide him! Because you have a banner in the centre of the V, most of your models will benefit from its rerolls, and you'll soon find it paying for itself.

Iron Guard Dwarves are especially good for this formation; with 2 Attacks each, they are the perfect shock troopers, and their throwing axes are very welcome additions, too. The key is constant aggression – there will be time for the Dwarves to rest when the battle is won!

Any bow-armed Dwarves you have (including Ballistas) should hang back from the Flying Axe and offer covering fire to pick off enemies that try to get around the back of the formation.

The Flying Axe
Because there is space inside the "V," Dwarves in the Flying Axe are unlikely to become trapped.
