LIZARDMEN SKINK PRIEST/WARCHIEF - Painted By Len Sullivan

Though this new model is technically a Skink Warchief, Len plans on using it as a Skink Priest in his growing Lizardmen army. Regardless of what Len calls it, he still has a good way to paint it.

Lizardmen Skink Priest

HOW DID HE DO THAT?

Len's army doesn't follow the standard Lizardmen blue shown in the Army book – instead, Len wanted his cold-blooded warriors to be green like all the lizards he's ever encountered (he doesn't get out much). Len primed this model Chaos Black to begin the process.

Len basecoated the skin with Dark Angels Green, followed by a layer of Snot Green with a final highlight of Scorpion Green. For the red areas of the skin, Len basecoated with Dark Flesh, then Terracotta, and then a 1:1 mix of Terracotta to Bleached Bone.

For the "furry" edge of the cloak, Len basecoated with Scorched Brown and drybrushed the raised areas with Kommando Khaki. For the blue feathers (and the blue around the staff orb), he basecoated with Regal Blue and highlighted with Enchanted Blue and then an Ice Blue drybrush. For the inside skin of the cloak, Len basecoated with Scorched Brown followed by layers of Bestial Brown and Snakebite Leather. He finished with a highlight of Vomit Brown.

Avoiding metallics for this model and going for an organic look, Len painted the orb and other "gold" areas in hues of yellow. He started with Bestial Brown, then Bubonic Brown, Golden Yellow, and finally Sunburst Yellow. As for the haft, Len simply basecoated with Scorched Brown, painted with Bestial Brown, and highlighted with Snakebite Leather. He painted the red areas around the staff with Red Gore and highlighted with Blood Red.

WHO IS LEN SULLIVAN?

Chances are that you've seen some of Len's work in US White Dwarf photos, from his Warhammer warband to his Warhammer 40,000 Kill-team. All of that on top of his duties as the marketing guru for GW US!
