Run Through the Jungle
CAMPAIGNING IN THE NEW WORLD

Have you been wondering how the Conquest of the New World campaign will work this summer? Not sure what it's all about? Here, Ken Kennedy and three other gamers run through a Lustria campaign. They'll show you how to cross all the pitfalls, whether or not you have a whip.

Ken: This summer is shaping up to be an action- packed season of Warhammer campaigning and gaming. To get you off on the right foot, we decided to team up with the US Studio and run through the Conquest of the New World campaign. We did this to give you some insight into where we had problems, and how we resolved these issues. If you are new to Warhammer, or you have not done any campaigning in a while, you will probably want to read this sample campaign after you've read through the Warhammer Realms: Lustria rules at least once. A few of the participants in this sample campaign are veteran gamers, and we still had slightly different interpretations of a few rules and made a few mistakes along the way.

THE PARTICIPANTS

Drew Will and Dave Taylor foolishly challenged Ty Finocchiaro and I to play a sample Conquest of the New World campaign. The theory was that we could use this sample campaign to help our fellow gamers understand the intricacies of the new campaign engine. Unbeknownst to Dave and Drew, Ty and I had both read the rules, and Ty had already hatched a diabolical plan for victory even before we made our first rolls.

As Drew was a little behind the rest of us on the rules front, I briefly told him about the campaign rules, and the various ways Campaign Points could be spent. I also outlined some things to think about when selecting starting locations and targeting territories for attack. With all this out of the way, it was time to begin the campaign!

TRACKING SHEETS

As I had to write a report on this sample campaign, I created a few sheets to help the players (and myself) keep tabs on things like Plunder Points, army locations, and how Campaign Points were being spent. Although you probably don't need as much documentation, these files might be of use:

LET'S GET IT ON!

Four D6 rolls into the game, we had our order of play decided, and we began deploying our armies. Ken rolled highest and placed a contingent of Dwarfs on the fortified temple-city of Hexoatl. Dave was next and grabbed the remote Tomb of Gold with his Ogres, Ty deployed his Chaotic forces in the valuable Ruined Temple-city, and Drew chose to occupy the lower portion of the map by snatching the Temple of Constellations. After the players had placed their second armies in the same order, the initial deployment looked like this:
