Gorbag and Shagrat

Sauron's chief stronghold has ever been the land of Mordor, a place of ill-fortune and fell reputation that lies between Gondor and Khand. Mordor is a ruined and evil place, a land that has endured too long under the shadow. History does not tell of Mordor before Sauron began to dwell there at the start of the Second Age – no name from earlier times is known. In the years of Sauron's power it has become the most feared realm in Middle-earth, a shadow that can yet stretch across the face of the world.

"One does not simply walk into Mordor. The Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep - the Great Eye is ever watchful. And if, by some miracle, you slip past the Morannon, what then? There is nowhere to hide on the plain of Gorgoroth - it is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, ash, dust - its very air is a poisonous fume. Not with an army of ten thousand men could you do this - it is folly."

- Boromir at the Council of Elrond.
