Painting Workshop
WHAT ARE CITADEL COLOUR PAINTS?

You've prepared and assembled your Games Workshop miniatures, and now it's time to bring them to life with a great-looking paint scheme. The massive line of Citadel Colours is here for just such a purpose. These vibrant paints give you all the colours you'll need to paint your Games Workshop miniatures up to a standard that will make you proud to display and game with them.

Citadel Colour Paints

CITADEL COLOURS

The Citadel Colour range, formulated by Games Workshop in conjunction with the industry's foremost manufacturer of artists' materials, sets the benchmark in terms of colour intensity and flow properties among paints used on miniatures. Primary consideration was given to the strength of colour and the draw quality – both of which facilitate fine detail painting and blending – and it is for these reasons that we can boast that Citadel Colours remain the finest miniature paints in the world. Our confidence in that statement also comes from the fact that Citadel Colours are used by many award-winning painters whose works adorn the pages of hobby and modelling magazines the world over.

Citadel Colours are designed for shading
and highlighting tabletop miniatures.

Citadel Colour paints are non-toxic, water-based acrylic paints specially formulated to cover Citadel miniatures. These properties mean that you don't need any harsh cleaners or thinners for your paints – water is all you'll need. The Citadel Colours have been crafted so that they are ideal for highlighting and shading your miniatures, as the range includes lighter and darker shades of pretty much all the colours. Now, you can give your miniatures added depth with ease, since each basecoat colour has a shading colour and a highlight colour associated with it. For example, if you want a strong green, you could use Goblin Green highlighted with Scorpion Green and shaded with Snot Green. You can see this green colour progression in the images below.

The Citadel Colours paint range also includes a set of excellent metallic paints. Citadel Colour metallics are water soluble, which means you don't need any messy thinners or solvents to clean your brushes, just water! Eight different metallic paints make up this portion of the Citadel Colour range. They include essential colours like gold, silver, bronze, and brass. These metallics are ideal for painting weapons and armour on all your miniatures without any hassle – just dip and paint.

Brown InkBrown InkINK WASHES

In addition to standard paints and metallic colours, the Citadel Colour paint range includes a series of ink washes. These washes are essentially highly pigmented paints in a liquid form. As such, Citadel Colour Inks are just the thing for shading your basecoats. Simply thin down the ink with a little water and paint it onto the miniature. The ink will flow into all the folds and recesses to create instant shading. Washes are also quite useful for tinting metallic colours, weathering effects, and several other techniques.

INDIVIDUAL POTS OF PAINT

Individual Paint PotsCitadel Colours are readily available in every Games Workshop Hobby Centre, on our website, and in fine hobby stores everywhere. Each of the 66 colours can be purchased individually, so you can easily pick and choose the colours you require. This approach allows you to tailor your colour palette for the particular army or project you are working on now. However, as you progress as a painter, you will undoubtedly find yourself in need of more colours as your army or armies grow. When that time comes, just stop by a store, grab the colours you need (and maybe stay for a game or two!) and get back to your painting.

To help you with this process, we've prepared a downloadable Citadel Colours paint checklist. By keeping the checklist handy in your paint area, you can tick off which paints you need as you work. This way, you won't forget any paints the next time you visit the store!
