Painting Workshop
GETTING STARTED

Once you've torn off the plastic wrapping of a Citadel plastic boxed set, or freed a metal miniature from its blister pack, you'll need to take care of some assembly before you hit the painting table. The heaping pile of sprues, bases, bits, and instructions may seem a bit daunting for first-time hobbyists. However, like most unknowns, it's really not a big deal once someone shows you how things are done. The following pages will help you assemble and prepare for painting any miniature, be it plastic or metal.

ASSEMBLING PLASTIC MINIATURES

Stage 1

Stage 2

Free all the various bits from the sprue with clippers. It's a good idea to organise the many items into separate piles (you can put them in old jars to avoid losing bits). This step will make the actual assembly a bit easier.

Trim the mould lines from the models with a hobby knife. You'll recognise a mould line as a thin line of raised plastic left from the moulding process that is clearly visible on the model. Use a scraping motion to remove the line.

Stage 3

Stage 4

Separate the bodies and/or legs from your piles of plastic bits and glue them to the bases before attaching any arms. The base lets you leave the model standing while it dries.

If you wish to see a model's pose before committing any glue, use Blu-tack or the blue strip from some epoxy putty to secure the bits temporarily.

Stage 5

Stage 6

Using Citadel Plastic Glue, carefully add heads, weapons, shields, and the like to complete your miniatures. Model complete!

Finally, as units form into ranks during games of Warhammer, make sure all your models form a neat block of troops.
