PAINTING TERRAIN WITH FOUNDATION PAINTS
Terrain is just as important as any other aspect of the Games Workshop hobby – it enhances your games and is fun to make. The new Citadel Foundation Paints allow for different techniques for painting your terrain than the standard Citadel Colours alone, and this article will show you some examples of how the Citadel Foundation Paints can be used on there own and in combination with the existing range.

For this piece of rocky terrain, we used a very simple paint scheme. First, we basecoated the dirt areas with the new Khemri Brown Citadel Foundation Paint and the rock areas with the new Dheneb Stone Citadel Foundation Paint. Due to the higher opacity of the Citadel Foundation Paints, it only took one coat of each colour to mask the undercoat completely. Plus, both colours have a very subdued, natural look to them that make them great for rocky terrain like this example.
Because this piece of Games Workshop terrain is made from moulded plastic, it has a lot of texture that benefits greatly from drybrushing. Once the basecoats dried, we drybrushed the dirt areas with an even mix of the Bleached Bone Citadel Colour and the Khemri Brown Citadel Foundation Paint. For the rocky areas, we used an even mix of Skull White Citadel Colour and Dheneb Stone Citadel Foundation Paint. Both mixes drybrushed well with the higher pigment contents, and we covered a lot of area with them using a Citadel Tank Brush.
MOVEMENT TRAYS

Movement trays are kind of a cross between bases and terrain. We decided to see how the new Citadel Foundation Paints would work on the Textured Movement Tray. We started with a basecoat of Knarloc Green Citadel Foundation Paint over the entire tray. Next, we applied Dark Green Ink to the raised edges of the tray. Next, we drybrushed the edges with an even mix of Gretchin Green Citadel Foundation Paint and Scorpion Green Citadel Colour. We then painted the other debris sticking out of the grass. We basecoated the rocks with Adeptus Battlegrey Citadel Foundation Paint and drybrushed them with Astonomicon Grey Citadel Foundation Paint. For the metal areas, we basecoated with Chainmail Citadel Colour and washed them with watered-down Black Ink. Finally, for the wooden chunks, we basecoated them with Calthan Brown Citadel Foundation Paint and then drybrushed them with an even mix of Snakebite Leather Citadel Colour and Khemri Brown Citadel Foundation Paint.
