Building the Deeping Wall
MODELLING A HELM'S DEEP TERRAIN PIECE

Page: 1|2

Here are several close-up shots of three areas of the terrain project. They are shown in a progression from start to finish in order to help you see how this diorama came to be. Along with the photos, I've added some useful hints (at least, I hope they're useful) about general terrain painting. Maybe they'll inspire you to create your own battle diorama or help you with your own terrain pieces!

Stage 1
Stage 2

I drybrushed the tips of the rocks with white to help make them stand out better.

To create the illusion of depth, I drybrushed the sand with progressively lighter shades of brown.

Stage 3
Stage 4

I washed the rocks and the riverbed with a mixture of green and brown washes for a damp, musty look.

To suggest that the fortress has stood for many years, I added foliage to the rocks and walls.
