PAINTING THE HORSES OF ROHAN
By following these detailed instructions and stage-by-stage images learn to paint the Horses of Rohan.
A complete Rider of Rohan actually consists of two models, the horse and the rider. Painting each one separately, before assembly, will make things a bit easier. You can start with the rider or the horse; it's up to you. We have simply chosen to start with the horse, because it seems to make sense to start from the ground up! The following step by step covers the painting of a basic horse. There are many, many different shades of colour your horse can be painted. Once you have this simple paint scheme down, experiment with other colours!
| 1 |
Undercoat the horse with Chaos Black and then paint all the flesh areas Bestial Brown and the saddle Scorched Brown. |
| 2 |
Go over the flesh areas once more with a slightly watered down Vermin Brown. Be sure to leave some Bestial Brown showing through in the recessed areas. |
| 3 |
Continue skin highlights with Snakebite Leather. Begin highlighting the edges of the saddle and other leather areas with a mix of Scorched Brown and a bit of Bleached Bone. |
| 4 | Finish off the skin with Vermin Fur highlights. Again highlight the leather with more of the Bleached Bone and Scorched Brown mix. Drybrush the tail and mane with Dark Flesh followed by Vermin Fur. Finally, paint the other details as you see fit. |
