Colours of The Riddermark
PAINTING THE RIDERS OF ROHAN

By following these detailed instructions and stage-by-stage images learn to paint the Riders of Rohan.

Now that you have painted a fine, strong steed of Rohan (see Painting The Horses of Rohan), it's time to add a rider. Riders of Rohan demand a muted earthy palette of dark greens and browns due to the fact that they are constantly covered in the grit from the day's ride. Carefully follow the simple steps below for the front and back of your riders and take care to use a steady hand. In no time, you will have a small force ready to battle the encroaching forces of Mordor!

1

Undercoat the model Chaos Black. Basecoat the cloak with a mix of 1/3 Dark Angels Green, 1/3 Camo Green, and 1/3 Vermin Fur. Paint the greaves, helm, and vambraces with thinned down Dark Flesh. Paint the saddle with straight Dark Flesh. Paint the spear Scorched Brown. The quiver bag on the rear of the model looks fine with any greenish brown mix. Finally, paint the hair Bubonic Brown.

2

Highlight the folds of the cloak by adding a bit of Snot Green to your green mix. Paint only the edges and leave deep crevices alone. Highlight the spear with Dark Flesh. Begin highlighting the hair by using Bubonic Brown and a bit of Skull White. Paint the shoes and tunic Scorched Brown. Highlight the quiver bag by adding lighter greens to whatever mix you are using.

3

Add final highlights to the cloak by adding more Snot Green into your mix. Pick out the metal bits with Boltgun Metal and Shining Gold. Add a bit of Vermin Fur to Dark Flesh to highlight the greaves, helm, and vambraces. Basecoat the shield with a 50/50 mix of Red Gore and Dwarf Flesh. Highlight this coat by adding more Dwarf Flesh to the mix and highlighting the edges. Finally, paint the horse emblem white.

This is it! You have painted both the horse and rider. Now it is time to complete the model. Carefully glue the rider in place with polystyrene glue. Some players prefer not to use glue and instead fit the rider in place with a plastic peg so that it can be taken on and off of the horse for gaming purposes. Finish off the base in any manner you see fit, and you are done. Now, start again and try your hand at another Rider of Rohan!
