Ty Finocchiaro: The first Emperor's Champion I wanted to convert simply had to have some sort of massive helmet decoration. I knew of a few different Bretonnian-type heads from the Warhammer range that would do nicely. I finally settled on the feather-tastic medieval helmet from the Knight of the Realm Body 2 (Item #9947020300505). To me, the Black Templars have a very "knight in shining (or not so shining) armour" feel. So, this head really hit all the bases for me. I had to do some trimming to fit the helmet, though I left a bit of the robe that that drapes over the helmet untouched. This cloth led nicely into the other item I really wanted to incorporate: a tabard.

The Crusader plastic sprues have plenty of robes and tabards, so it was a simple matter of picking out the best torso robe for the job. Coupled with the helmet hoodie, everything was tying together pretty nicely. Now, I needed a unique weapon. Since the Black Sword doesn't always have to be a sword per se, it can be any type of weapon you wish. So, to finish off this simple conversion, I went for a nasty weapon: the good ol' mace. Enter the power mace (Item #9947010200220) from a Chaos Terminator. I carefully clipped this bit from the Terminator arm, drilled a hole in the plastic hand for it, and glued it in place. With that, this simple conversion was ready for paint.
