They are fearless champions of the Emperor and unforgiving crusaders against His enemies and those of Mankind. In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the Black Templars were forged as one of the untested successor Chapters to the Imperial Fists Space Marines. To prove their loyalty and prowess, the new Black Templars launched crusades across the galaxy. Ten thousand years later, they continue to bring the sword in the name of the Emperor.

Unlike Codexes of yore, you do NOT need Codex: Space Marines to use Codex: Black Templars. That's right, the only two books you need to start a Black Templars army is its Codex and the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.
