Righteous Zeal
GETTING STARTED WITH BLACK TEMPLARS

Black Templars Dreadnought

Now it's time to use your fully assembled (and partially painted) Black Templars from the boxed set to play some Warhammer 40,000. Below is a really simple scenario that you can play with a friend to get introduced to the game and establish a feel for how to play.

BROTHER VERSUS BROTHER

OVERVIEW

You have just won a hard-fought campaign to purge a planet of the vile forces of Chaos. Your Chapter's men fought alongside other Chapters in a valiant effort worthy of the Space Marines. Yet, you have reason to believe that a squad from another Chapter was corrupted by a Daemon of Chaos during the fight. The squad members seem to revel just a little too much in the blood of the slain. You contact your Chapter's Chaplain about the problem, and he gives you one command: "Shoot first and ask questions later!"

As you ready your bolters, you notice that the other Chapter's squad is doing the same. They seem to think that you are under the sway of Chaos, too.

SCENARIO SPECIAL RULES

Use the Loose Formation and To the Death! special rules.

Loose Formation. Since the scenario is a small combat action, models do not need to follow the Squad Coherency rules. Each model can move wherever it wants!

To the Death! All the Space Marines involved know death well and do not fear it. You may ignore any and all Morale rules during the game.

This scenario uses the contents of the Black Templars Crusader Squad boxed set (10 Initiates). Each player controls five Space Marines armed however you choose.

SET UP

1) Place an appropriate number of ruins, buildings, and other terrain on a 2' x 2' table or some other flat surface. If you don't have any painted terrain, feel free to use common items as proxies (e.g., that soda can sure looks like a storage tank to me).

2) Roll a D6. The player with the high roll chooses a table edge and places a single Space Marine anywhere along that edge. The other player then places a Space Marine along the opposite table edge. Alternate placing models until all 10 are in place.

3) Roll a D6. The player with the high roll chooses who takes the 1st turn.

MISSION OBJECTIVE

Annihilate the enemy! The last Space Marine standing is the winner.

GAME LENGTH

The game lasts until the mission objective has been met.

Black Templars CrusaderRESERVES

At the start of a player's 6th turn and each subsequent turn, roll a D6. A roll of 5+ means that a Space Marine armed with a bolter has arrived as a reinforcement (drawn from casualties from combat in earlier turns). This model may immediately move into play from anywhere along that player's edge of the table.

LINE OF RETREAT

By the Emperor, there is no retreat!
