Filling Out the Crusade
CONVERTING BLACK TEMPLARS NEOPHYTES

Since the Black Templars Neophytes are different from other Chapters' Scouts in many ways, it makes sense that Neophyte models should look different. Ty Finocchiaro takes a look at converting squads of Neophytes.

Black Templars Crusader and Neophyte

Neophytes are unique to the Black Templars, and they allow for some tactically flexible squad compositions. The various weaponry available to Initiates and Neophytes can result in a squad that is solid in either assault or long-ranged support roles. The other option is to gather Ork-like numbers of bio engineered supermen and go whole-hog on the assault potential. For example, a mixed squad armed with assault weapons could potentially number 20 models. Few can withstand that kind of overwhelming assault.

Whichever way you choose to use 'em, there's no doubt that Black Templars players will be needin' some Neophyte models in bulk. The Space Marine Scout plastics are a great place to start building your Neophyte collection and fill out those Crusader squads. However, you need to make the Scout models look like Templars — that's where this article will come in handy.

When combined with the plethora of other bits out there, the plastic Scouts can become Neophytes that ooze the Black Templars look and feel. So, we tasked Ty Finocchiaro to build and paint up (with a little help) different variations of Black Templars Neophytes using the Scout plastics as a starting point. You can't help but gather a few ideas for your own Neophyte conversions from the following pages, so get a move on and check 'em out.
