Stuart Spengler: I focused my conversion work on spiffing-up the plastic Land Speeder. I had only done one other Land Speeder (for my Warhammer 40,000 demo set waaaaaay back in the depths of time), and my previous Ravenwing army featured a Master of the Ravenwing on a bike, so working on the plastic Land Speeder was a change.

One of the biggest influences was David Rodriguez's Ultramarines Land Raider in White Dwarf 304. To mimic that technique, I used thin plastic strip embossed with rivets to add some flair to the body of the Speeder. I also cut the ailerons from the wings and repositioned them to make it look like they're causing the Speeder to roll. Eisenhorn kindly offered to replace the usual clear-plastic flying stem and play the part of a ruined statue.

I didn't use any of the bits from the previous incarnation of the Master, as most of them have now been produced in plastic. I did use the metal shoulder pads, as I felt the Master would be worthy of some flair in the form of high-detail icons (that you can't really see here... doh). I also made the Master out of bits from the Space Marine Commander sprue. I wanted to make sure that he had a Raven Sword and an Iron Halo somewhere, even though they aren't used in the game but are referenced as still being symbols of his position. A few purity seals here and there finished off this conversion.

Painting was pretty straightforward; I stuck to the classic Ravenwing colours of black, white, and silver. I used a bit of gold for things like the Iron Halo and the Eye of Night. Lastly, to reflect his status, I painted the Master with more metals on him than the gunner.
