Nathan Bishop: For the Ravenwing Standard Bearer, I built the bike and rider directly from the Ravenwing Sprue. The only exception is the the bolter bit to the fuel tank, which I snagged from the classic Attack Bike model.
For the banner, I used some plasticard that I cut in the shape I wanted. Then, I cut off the feathers from one of the Ravenwing Hussar-style wings and cut the end of the plasticard banner so that it could be attached to the wing shaft. Before attaching it to the shaft, I used a heat gun to carefully heat the plasticard so that it was malleable enough to bend it like it was waving in the wind. A note of caution: a heat gun is normally used to heat up paint so that it cant be scraped off – it gets very hot and you need to be very, very careful that you don't burn yourself. I used some metal tongs to hold the banner in the heat. Once I had the banner in the shape I wanted, I attached it to the Ravenwing shaft with plastic glue. Then, I used Green Stuff to add some feathers and a purity seal to the wing shaft.
For the image on the banner, I was inspired by the painting of a Ravenwing Banner by Dave Gallagher on page 17 of Codex: Dark Angels. I decided to put my Ravenwing bikes on custom-made capsule bases that make it a bit easier to add details. Click here for an article on how you can make this type of bike base.
