Colours of Darkness
PAINTING DARK ANGELS SPACE MARINES

In this step-by-step guide, we explain how to paint your Dark Angels Space Marines and get them ready for the tabletop field of battle.

Painting Dark Angels Space Marines

There are many, many ways to paint a Space Marine. You can paint them according to a specific Chapter or make a colour scheme up on your own! Here we'll learn how a Dark Angel can be painted using 10 colours. Once your model has an undercoat, painting can begin. Follow the detailed instructions and check out the stage by stage images as you paint your model for reference. Don't fret if the model doesn't come out picture perfect in the end, painting takes time and practice to master. Just do the best you can each time and be open to learning new techniques from others. Before you know it, you'll be quite an accomplished painter with models you'll be proud to game with!

After undercoating the model Chaos Black, the power armour is carefully painted Dark Angels Green, taking care to leave lines of Chaos Black between armour plates.

A slightly thinned mix of 80/20 Dark Angels Green and Bad Moon Yellow is carefully painted onto the edges of the armour. Try to ensure that the lines are of the same size and wide enough to allow you to paint more highlight lines in the next couple of steps. The eyes are painted with Blood Red, and Skull White is painted onto the boltgun casing. To finish this stage, Bestial Brown is applied to the chest eagle.

3

A slightly thinned mix of 60/40 Dark Angel Green and Bad Moon Yellow is again carefully painted onto the armour, but only on the very edges for a final highlight. The eyes are highlighted on the bottom with a mix of Fiery Orange and Blood Red. Blood Red is painted onto the boltgun casing at this point. The chest eagle is highlighted with Bleached Bone, and the foot coils can be given a coat of Scab Red. Your Marine is certainly good enough for gaming at this point!

4

Start of this stage with a Fiery Orange and Blood Red highlight on the edges of the boltgun casing. Shadow Grey is very steadily painted onto all the soft ridges in between the armour plates. The chest eagle is finished with a highlight of Skull White, and the foot coils are given a highlight of Blood Red.

5

Fiery Orange is painted as a final highlight onto the edge of the boltgun casing. Finally, Boltgun Metal is painted onto all the metal areas of the helmet, boltgun, and backpack.
